Ford Is Discontinuing Transit 130” Mid-Roof & Others Discontinue Smaller Work Vans. Now what?
Ford has announced some models of their small commercial van lineup have been discontinued from the company. The Transit 130” WB Mid Roof is now unavailable to order. All Crew vans and the Transit Connect have also been discontinued. Vehicles reaching the end of their run happens from time to time as automakers continue to evolve to new and changing markets and, of course, make room for new models. For Ford, the Transit 130'“ Mid Roof was successful and and gave fleet operators that perfect not-too-big, not-too-small van.
While these removals from the market may be inconvenient to some, there are certainly some excellent alternatives Ford offers for those who loved the 130” MR.
There’s still options for smaller cargo work vans.
With the loss of the Ford Transit 130” WB (MR), Transit Connect, Mercedes Metris, ProMaster City, and other small cargo work vans, some fleet managers and independent cargo van operators are looking to see what else is available, and available quickly.
The Transit 148” WB with a higher roof for example is a model that is steadily replacing the 130” in many fleets across North America along with the RAM Promaster series. The added benefit is the obvious increase in headroom which is key for those operators who work inside the cargo area of their van and the longer wheelbase for added stability. Many fleets have seen ProMasters more available in the last couple years, with more fluctuation from Ford’s supply of Transits.
Some fleet managers are also moving to smaller passenger vans such as the Chrysler Pacifica, and expertly adapting them to work for cargo applications by adding a custom partition, taking out the back seats, and adding a rigid floor. The silver lining? These smaller vans can fit into even more places, like underground parking garages for mall & hospital delivery for applications such as pharmaceutical delivery, for example.
We’re sure there will be more additions and deletions coming as the auto market continues to change and adapt to new demands from fleets across North America. Stay tuned right here and we’ll bring them to you as they happen!
