Putting EVOLVE to the Crash Test

NUNEATON, UK | OCTOBER 2022

Now that upfitters can't drill through the chassis floor of EV's, the responsibility of securing shelving solely relies on the installed aftermarket floor. Is the pull strength of Legend's industry-leading EVOLVE Lightweight Floor high enough though? We did a crash test to find out just that when we put our lightweight floor to the ultimate 20G acceleration test.
LEGEND’s Evolve floor has always been claimed to be strong and durable, being perfect for anything up to the heaviest duty work. We wanted to test that and make it official, so we went to the UK and team up with HORIBA MIRA, a vehicle safety facility. We made use of their reverse acceleration facility to slingshot a van upfitted with shelves and racks attached to Evolve flooring.

HORIBA MIRA can collect high-speed video and still photos during the test, as well as collect data regarding the different variables and results of the test. The data they received said that Evolve passed the test.

THE SETUP

The test happened at the MIRA HyGe Pneumatic Reverse Accelerator Facility in Nuneaton, UK. LEGEND’s Evolve floor had several shelves attached to it that were loaded with sandbags. The floor itself was fastened to the van with our no-drill bracket system.

THE TEST

The process involved attaching the upfitted van to an accelerator and rapidly accelerating it to almost 27 g’s of force. Other materials moving at this speed with any weight attached would have splintered or snapped. Did EVOLVE hold up?

THE RESULTS

After the test, while the sandbags did go flying, the shelves and the floor all remained securely fastened. All of the brackets and fasteners attached to the floor stayed firmly in place, which means that EVOLVE passed. This lightweight floor can withstand the most extreme situations and still come out on top.
